Riding Jet Skis on Local Lakes

When the summer temperatures bounce between 85 and 110, it's time to plan on doing something other than sweat alot. So come up to the local Central Sierra and spend the day, or better yet, the weekend on a jet ski trip.

Bring your watercraft with you from home or you can rent one in the local area. There are full service marinas at Shaver Lake and Huntington Lake that provide rentals for you. They even have all the daily necessities, such as gasoline, sun screen, food, snacks, apparel, marine supplies and more.

Shaver Lake is located about 55 miles east of Fresno, on State Highway 168. The lake is located in the Sierra National Forest, at an elevation of 5,370 feet. Huntington Lake is another 20 miles north at an elevation of around 7,500 feet.

These lakes have a large variety of marine life and some of the best fishing in California. The marinas are seasonal businesses that are open from late April to the mid October.

The backcountry lakes offering boat rentals, food, supplies and acccommodations include Edison, Florence and Wishon. However, jet skis are not allowed on these waterways. There is a 15 miles per hour limit on all watercraft.
